San Giorgio del Porto (SGDP) has a long tradition in the shipyard industry and is a global point of reference for the repair and conversion of all types of ship, completing numerous projects over the years and accumulating vast experience in the sector.
In the last 30 years, the shipyard has been involved in all market segments, from merchant ships and off shore vessels to LNG/LPG carriers, military vessels and large offshore units (over 90 projects in 2018 alone). SGDP has the experience and all the technical skills necessary to carry out any ship repair and conversion project efficiently, as well as ship recycling, in accordance with Italian and European regulations: the facilities were specifically built to comply with all the strictest environmental protection regulations.
Refitting services
San Giorgio del Porto provides fully customised ship refitting services and ship conversion operations. Their specialised teams are able to design, manage and deliver any project, regardless of its complexity, whether the shipowner simply wants to give the ship a new look and renovate existing space, or to increase capacity and improve efficiency.
Ship repair and maintenance
Ship repair and maintenance have always been the core business of the shipyard: from medium range ships to the giants of the sea, SGDP has the facilities, teams and technical know-how to carry out any type of repair.

Additional services
The yard routinely performs complementary services such as tank coating, engine overhaul, work on electrical systems, as well as the overhaul and repair of electrical motors and alternators.
Specialised services
In addition to standard repair and maintenance services, the shipyard also offer special services with high added value. Leading engine and equipment manufacturers are its regular partners and over time it have carefully selected each of its qualified service subcontractors. The shipyard is able to carry out all necessary operations on ship propulsion systems; the specialised workshops can take care of the removal of tail shafts and rudders, as well as the complete overhaul of engines and pods.
Ship Recycling
San Giorgio del Porto is one of the key players in Europe for green ship recycling and waste management.SGDP is the first shipyard entered in the Italian Register of Naval Demolishers in 2014 and is certified ISO 30000:2009 for Ship Recycling Management Systems, by RINA Classification Services. This certification was awarded to attest green and safe ship recycling facilities. Thanks to the certifications, the project management and the great experience gained in over the years, SGdP successfully completed the dismantling and recycling of the Concordia wreck, one of the most important green ship recycling projects ever carried out in Europe and the first “Green Ship Recycling” officially performed in Italy
